Dwarf Hosta ('little wonder')

This mini, shade loving plant is full of charm. It has narrow 1" light green leaves edged with a creamy white margin. Tiny but typical hosta bell flowers with lavender/purple blooms. Top Hat Blueberry (vaccinium corymbosum argustifolium)

Our dwarf Top Hat Blueberry is native to northern and alpine North America. Loaded with small white blooms in spring followed by sweet full size 1/2" edible blueberries. It has a harvest season of one month starting in early August. Self pollinating. Only 18" when fully grown. The foliage turns a bright red color in the fall. Ligustrum - Straight Trunk (ligustrum lucidum)

Native to China and Eastern Asia and now grown ornamentally in the United States. The berries are employed as a "yin" tonic in traditional Chinese medicine for a wide variety of conditions, including premature aging, ringing in the ears and chronic toxicity. English Crabapple (pourthirea villosa)

The English Crabapple has alternate tooth leaves and is a very popular traditional bonsai due to its flowers and fruit. Sweet Plum (sageretia theezans)

A tropical evergreen tree native to China. Has very small (less than 3/4") green leaves which are lightly veined and almost bronze when they emerge. The Sageretia sheds its bark and the trunk becomes multi-colored. Small pink-white flowers in spring give way to small black fruits (3-5mm) during the summer and into autumn. Olive (olea europaea "little ollie")

Also known as Common Olive or European Olive. Silvery leaves and white bark make this a very interesting looking tree. This unique tree produces the edible olive that is also used to make olive oil. To encourage fruiting, keep at 35F for several weeks during winter. Olea are often used as shade trees or planted in groves. Produces flowers on second year's branch growth. Tree of a Thousand Stars. The Japonica has somewhat elongated spoon shaped shiny green leaves. It is a twiggy tree that grows tighter with shearing. Sweet Acacia (acacia farnesiana)

This small tree which is native to tropical America has very small feathery, finely divided leaflets on compound leaves and has a soft medium green color. The slightly rough stems are a rich chocolate brown or grey having sharp short multiple thorns. The small, yellow, puff-like flowers are very fragrant and appear in clusters in late winter and also sporadically after each new flush of growth, providing nearly year round bloom. Texas Ebony (pithecolobium flexicaule)

Acacia/Mimosa family. Native to Texas and Mexico and is ideal for dry, indoor locations. The short branches are clothed in tiny dark green, bi-pinnate (compound) leaflets and make a wide rounded canopy which casts a filtered shade below. Leaves fold up at night or in subdued light. Touching the leaves does not put it to sleep as with some Mimosa. Short thorns are interspersed among the branches. From June to August it is decorated with dense, plume-like spikes of very fragrant, light yellow to white blossoms at the end of its branches. Dark brown woody seed capsules follow the blooms and persist on the tree for weeks. In Mexico these seed pods are eaten and the shells roasted and used as a coffee substitute. Jaboticaba - Medium (eugenia caulifora)

Native to southern Brazil the Jaboticaba, pronounced in five (5) syllables just as it is spelled, is a member of the Myrtle family and relative of the Guava. The botanical name "Cauliflora" means that it flowers and bears fruit on the trunk and mature branches. During its flowering period the tree is covered in clusters of small white flowers all over the trunk and branches. These eventually develop into dark berries, which are sometimes sold in delicatessens. The kernels of the fruits can be grown as bonsai which make pretty indoor trees.
